The contract for services provided at Slough Walk in Centre at Upton Park hospital expired in December 2015. An extension to this contract was provided for 18 months and expires in June 2017.

The service is currently commissioned by NHS England. The contract extension period has provided NHS England, Slough CCG and Windsor, Ascot and Maidnenhead (WAM) CCG with an opportunity to review the current service and consider how the service could be developed in the future.

Slough CCG is working together with WAM CCG and Chiltern CCG, stakeholders and patients and the public to agree a new model of care which will fit with the local primary care strategy and deliver improved primary care services.

Options considered

Five options were considered for the walk in element of the service. Each of the options are described in the Slough Walk in Centre Options Appraisal document, which can be downloaded below.

Option 5, the preferred option, emerged during a meeting which had evolved from the thinking around the ‘Steps to the Future’ strategy for primary care in Slough and the review of the Walk in Centre. This option brought together elements of the first 18 months of learning from the Slough PMCF together with the knowledge and experience of existing commissioning plans in Slough, such as complex case management.

Engagement with stakeholders
