Working together with the community to increase awareness, deliver health promotion activities, encourage prevention and early diagnosis.
Slough CCG and Macmillan Cancer Support have embarked on a new joint partnership programme to improve bowel cancer screening and increase uptake rates.
Slough CCG in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support have produced a handy step-by-step leaflet on how to complete the test kit.
There is an easy read guide to Bowel Cancer Screening for people with learning disabilities.
A series of videos have been produced aimed at those with learning disabilities and carers, but can be used by everyone to help them understand the bowel screening process.
The videos can be viewed on YouTube.
The programme focus is to engage with different communities in Slough about bowel cancer and bowel cancer screening.
About 1 in 20 people in the UK will develop bowel cancer during their lifetime. It is the third most common cancer in the UK, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths, with over 16,000 people dying from it each year.
As of December 2014, a total of 40,302 people between 60-74 years of age living in Slough were invited to take part in the bowel cancer screening programme since its inception. Out of this figure 15,157 people have completed the test, leaving over 25,000 unscreened individuals.*

Regular bowel cancer screening aims to detect bowel cancer at an early stage when patients may have no symptoms.
People will automatically receive a simple bowel cancer test kit in the mail when they turn 60 and every two years thereafter, up to 74 years of age.

Promoting bowel cancer screening in the community
We have been out and about in the Slough Community promoting bowel cancer screening, and have some case studies from Slough Community members about their experiences with bowel cancer and bowel cancer screening.
The video was taken at the Bowel Cancer Screening Launch event on the 8th July.
